Why I wrote MasterMinding Wounds

With over 30 years of experience in managing wounds, over 100 publications/presentations on wounds, and as an orthopedic surgeon, able to handle all aspects of wound care, I increasingly appreciated the challenges wound management generated.  The challenges ranged from lack of a logical and intuitive scoring system to grade wounds, the “head in the sands” approach to wound management with dressing agents (with over 2500 choices!!!) in lieu of adequately managing the wound base with debridements and failure to remove deformities and eliminate deep infections. My orthopedic experiences helped me appreciate the importance of biomechanics in the pathophysiology of wound evolution and what interventions to introduce at the optimum times.
